Top: 26" x 24" x 4" Bottom: 24" x 26" x 4"
These photographs are mounted on thick slabs of limestone. The top image was shot in Barcelona, Spain, at the base of a towering monument to Columbus. The sculpure shows a missionary in the New World converting a native, who is kissing a cross. The photograph on the bottom of the diptych is of a monument in Amarillo, Texas, depicting Father Juan de Padilla being massacred by the Indians. When the monument was constructed in the 1930's, the massacre was believed to have occured in West Texas. It has since been proved that the massacre happened in Kansas.
