Tractor Display, Levelland, 1999

This strikes me as the agricultural equivalent to Stanley Marsh's Cadillac Ranch west of Amarillo. Seven vintage tractors are lined up in front of the owner's home in Levelland. As the name of the town implies, this town sits on the Llano Estacado, the flattest part of West Texas. The foreground of the photograph implies this flatness. "Llano Estacado," translated as "Staked Plains," derives from early settlers having to drive stakes into the ground to tie their horses, as there were no trees.
